Hire safely: 6 quick checks
What we do, and what you should still check before you hire a pro.
NearbyON is a directory. We help you find pros and talk to them, but we don’t employ them, do the work or take part in your deal. Before you hire:
- Check the license for electrical, plumbing, AC, roofing and structural work, on myfloridalicense.com. What “License active” means
- Ask for proof of insurance.
- Get it in writing: the price, the dates and the warranty.
- Pay in stages. Never the whole job up front.
- Look at their work: the photos on their page. Ask questions.
- Keep your messages in writing, on WhatsApp or by e-mail.
Red flags: the whole price up front in cash, pressure to decide right now, no license for work that needs one, or anyone asking for your sign-in code. NearbyON will never ask for a code, a password or a payment with gift cards.
Something wrong? Report the page. Someone working without a license in Florida: call the state’s hotline, 1-866-532-1440. In an emergency, call 911.
